Richard's new play, which examines the emotional journey that coach Pete Pagano faces after he is fired from his head football coach position at a small college in the Midwest, while also struggling with his aging mother who has dementia and is placed in assisted living, is currently in its first draft. Richard offers the excerpt below, which is from a much longer speech the coach gives to friends and relatives at his mother's memorial, to provide some insight as to the tone


Kalinoski to Release New Play - "A Bear in Winter"
Richard is excited to announce that he has been working on a brand-new play, tentatively titled A Bear in Winter. His new and emerging play is centered around a fictional fired football coach named Pete Pagano, and his re-investigation of his own identity. Pete tries to rebuild his life in middle age as his mother is dying from dementia (in an assisted living facility with the name "The Meadows," of which there are none). By several measures, Pete is haunted by tragic losses
